Located in Starkville, Mississippi, the arsenal is a private collection of Civil War field artillery carriages open for public viewing by appointment. Schedule your appointment by calling Duffy at (662) 323-2606.
One of the components of the field artillery is the many different types of rolling stock or carriages that make up an artillery battery. The Starkville Civil War Arsenal is the only facility in the country where visitors can view ALL of the Civil War field artillery carriages and associated support vehicles.
Your visit to the arsenal begins in the Visitors Center, which seats about 30 people. After viewing a slide program, you will be prepared for a self-guided tour of the collection of the artillery rolling stock which was used by both Union and Confederate artillerymen. When your tour is completed, you will then return to the Visitors Center for a question and answer session. And finally, to complete your visit to the arsenal, you will choose a lecture program from a list of artillery-related topics. Most visits to the arsenal are completed in about two hours, but visits are not limited to that amount of time.
There is no admission fee to the arsenal, but donations are welcomed to help with the operating and maintenance costs. Click here to see how you can help.
